AHF’s fellowship and training programs create opportunities to learn beyond the annual conference podium – in the OR, through hands-on training, in candid conversations with experienced surgeons and alongside peers facing many of the same challenges.
Whether you’re still in training, building your practice or looking for access to education and an international surgical community, these programs are designed to expand what you see, who you learn from and what you can take back to your own operating room.
The AHF Traveling Fellowship
For early-career surgeons ready to take their practice further.
The AHF Traveling Fellowship gives early-career orthopaedic surgeons the opportunity to step inside leading anterior hip practices and see how multiple experienced surgeons work in the real world.
It’s not about learning one prescribed technique. Fellows see different surgeons, different ORs and different approaches to the same challenges, from exposure and workflow to technology, complex cases and surgical decision-making.
That access matters. Watching how another surgeon responds when anatomy is difficult, the plan changes or a case simply isn’t going as expected can teach something a presentation cannot.
The goal is to broaden perspective, sharpen judgment and give fellows practical ideas they can bring back to their own practice, while building relationships with surgeons and peers they can continue to learn from throughout their careers.

The Ronald Burkle AHF Fellowship
Expanding access to education, and the community around it.
The Ronald Burkle AHF Fellowship is designed for orthopaedic hip surgeons from Low- and Middle-Income Countries for whom the cost of international travel and education can be a significant barrier.
The fellowship provides access to the AHF Annual Meeting, its faculty and a wider international community of surgeons committed to advancing hip arthroplasty.
The impact goes beyond one meeting. Burkle Fellows take new knowledge, techniques and relationships back to their own hospitals and surgical communities — extending the reach of that education to colleagues and, ultimately, patients.

Fellows & Residents Program
Start building the skills before you need them
The AHF Fellows & Residents Program gives orthopaedic residents and adult reconstruction fellows practical exposure to anterior hip arthroplasty at a formative point in their surgical careers.
Participants learn directly from experienced AHF faculty through hands-on training, surgical education, case discussion and the wider AHF Annual Meeting.
The focus goes beyond learning the steps of an anterior hip replacement. It’s about understanding anatomy and exposure, developing surgical judgment, seeing different approaches and learning how experienced surgeons respond when a case becomes more challenging.
For surgeons in training, it’s an opportunity to build confidence and perspective before entering independent practice — and to become part of a community they can continue to learn from as their careers develop.
