Ronald Burkle Fellowship

"TECHNIQUE UNLEASHED

April 16-17, 2027

Fontainebleau Hotel | Miami Beach

Bringing international perspectives together

The Ronald Burkle AHF Fellowship offers orthopaedic surgeons from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) the opportunity to attend AHF 2027 in Miami Beach, with financial support to help make their participation possible.

At AHF, surgeons share more than their successes. They share the difficult cases, the techniques they’ve refined, the complications they’ve encountered and the decisions that made a difference.

For Burkle Fellows, it’s an opportunity to learn directly from experienced anterior hip surgeons, exchange ideas with colleagues from around the world and take practical knowledge back to their own operating rooms and surgical communities.

AHF 2027: Technique Unleashed is built around the realities of hip surgery. Through surgical video, candid case discussion and practical teaching, faculty will explore what to do when anatomy is challenging, exposure is difficult or the original plan needs to change.

The Fellowship Includes:

  • Surgical lab participation: Access to at least one lab on Thursday, April 15, offering additional exposure to surgical techniques and approaches.

  • AHF 2027 scientific program: Two days of practical surgical education, case discussions and presentations from experienced hip surgeons.

  • International connections: Opportunities to meet and exchange experiences with surgeons working in different healthcare systems.

  • Networking and collaboration: Access to AHF faculty, fellow attendees and the wider AHF surgical community.

  • Financial support: Assistance with the costs of attending the meeting, made possible through the generosity of Ronald Burkle.

Who should apply?

We welcome applications from orthopaedic surgeons practicing in low- and middle-income countries who:

  • Have a focus on hip surgery, including hip replacement.

  • Have an interest in the direct anterior approach.

  • Have at least two years of experience following completion of their surgical fellowship training.

  • Are actively involved in surgeon education and/or serve as an important provider of hip surgery in their country or region.

We are particularly interested in surgeons who can share what they learn with colleagues and help advance surgical practice in their local communities.

About the Fellowship

The Ronald Burkle AHF Fellowship was established to expand access to advanced hip surgery education and encourage the exchange of surgical knowledge across international borders.

Through the generous support of Ronald Burkle, an international businessman and philanthropist committed to global medical education, the Fellowship helps surgeons overcome financial barriers to participating in the AHF Annual Meeting.

The goal extends beyond the meeting itself: to build professional relationships, share practical surgical knowledge and support surgeons who are making a difference in their own communities.
